The Far Country
A digitally native mythology
The Far Country is an ongoing world-building project. Through animated short films a broader story unfolds, while collections, one-of-ones, and dynamic art expand the mythos. It's an homage to mystery, an invitation to be curious.
For over a year, I've felt pulled toward a place. A place I couldn't quite put my finger on. My thoughts, my dreams all circled this one idea. I would find myself absorbed in stories, characters, and phenomena that occupied the same space. A world I've come to name The Far Country.
It's the hatch beneath the carpet in the study, it's the light in the woods at dead of night, it's the door that only opens to another door. It's how the inhabitants of an impossibly vast world refer to everything beyond their own borders. The Far Country is the embodiment of the unknown.
I'm interested in how digital art can operate like folklore: stories passed down through art, symbols, and recurring characters that accumulate more questions than answers over time. Mystery is the central mechanism of the project. The Far Country is not meant to be fully explained, but discovered through repetition, interpretation, and participation.
Through animated short films, a broader story unfolds, while collections, 1/1s, and editions expand the mythos.
Short films. These are the foundations of the project. They take the longest to create and arrive months apart, moving the world forward through time, carrying the broader narrative.
Mythos. The 1/1s. Usually arrive in collections, each building on the mythology: a place, a figure, a moment, a concept.
Editions. Limited editions, rewards, burns, and other accessible works create points of interaction within The Far Country. They expand the concepts, revisit ideas, and allow more people to participate in unfolding the world.
Discoveries. Hidden throughout the project are discoveries: puzzles, riddles, easter eggs, and connections. They may reveal new details, offer clues, or simply ask more questions.
A riddle can change how you see a film, an edition can answer a question that a 1/1 raised. Everything is tied together.
Participation takes many forms. But one is key: collect and engage with the art you like.
One of the strangest and most beautiful things about world-building is that it starts to feel separate from yourself. As if the world you're creating is real. You're not inventing so much as exploring, as if the place is already out there and you're only finding your way through it.
My aim is to create a mythology that feels alive and gather people who resonate with it. It's also an opportunity for me to explore mediums and concepts that I otherwise wouldn't, and simply create the art that I want to create.
